location has moved with them. The
Agency is now located at 215 Depot Court. It
is approximately across the street from the Tuscarora Mill Restaurant and right
next to the Morningside Assisted Living House.
Our meeting will be in the multi-purpose room. As with the previous location, just tell the guard(s)
you’re with JWCL and they will point you in the right direction. A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, SUSAN Happy
Junior Month! October is Junior Woman’s Club Month and we
have a lot to celebrate! Thanks to
all of you for making Waterford a huge success.
I especially want to thank Cheryl and Pam
who put in many, many hours to make Waterford happen.
We couldn’t have done it without you, ladies! On
the same weekend, I attended the District Meeting in Manassas.
There was a speaker from an accounting firm who discussed IRS rules for
non-profit organizations under 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4).
She strongly recommends that we become a 501(c)(3) organization.
I’ll be discussing this with the Board.
If you have any thoughts on this subject, or have an accountant that we
can work with, please let me know. There
was also a wonderful Mother-Daughter combination speaker.
They attended to talk about how much they enjoy Camp East and what a
benefit it is to their family. I
also had the opportunity to attend a Junior’s District Meeting, where we
discussed and voted on the District Junior Standing Rules. I would encourage all of you to attend a club meeting that
extends beyond Loudoun County. At
lunch I was able to sit next to ladies from other clubs and get fundraising
ideas from them, as well as share club and personal experiences.
I met one group that does house tours in December.
They decorate all of the houses and then they take down the decorations,
go home and decorate their own houses for the holidays.
Wow, can you imagine? It
takes me weeks just to decorate my own house!
At the Junior’s District Meeting we also discussed selling Uncle Al’s
Pecans. They are asking each club
to sell at least 55 pounds by the end of the year.
I’ll bring all the information on that to our next meeting.
I had a great time. Thanks
so much for letting me attend the meeting. Looking
ahead, we have the Holiday Coalition coming up in November and December as well
as MADD opportunities. Please bring
your calendars with you so that we can work together to volunteer for these
organizations. The Holiday
Coalition dates are Nov. 16th-20th and Dec. 5th-18th. Thanks to those who baked for MADD this past weekend.
The checkpoint was changed to October 18th.
Not to worry, I put the baked goods in the freezer before I gave in to
temptation and ate them all! I’m
planning on working at the checkpoint this weekend, so give me a call if
you’re interested in joining me. Keep
making club memories! Susan A
NOTE FROM TERI, FIRST VICE PRESIDENT, VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES COMMITTEE CHAIR
A
MEMBERSHIP MESSAGE FROM MICHELLE, our
second vice president Dear
Members and Prospectives, I
hope that everyone is having a wonderful October.
I just wanted to mention a few things this month.
First, Secret Pal forms have been sent in the mail.
We had 27 members sign-up to be secret pals.
If you signed up and did not receive a letter from me with your pals name
please let me know as soon as possible. Secret
Pals are just for the next three months, we will reveal secret pals at our
December Ladies Night Out. Next,
as some of you may have noticed we added a topic called Membership
Announcements/Concerns under the Officer Report section of our meeting agenda.
This was in effort to make sure that we were meeting all the needs of our
members. We want to make sure that
we are there for each other in happy times such as weddings, births, and
graduations as well in difficult times such as illness, job layoffs etc.
If there is anything we can do as a club or individual member such as
bring a dinner to someone, offer babysitting services, or simply send a card in
celebration or support then we want to make sure that we are made aware of any
needs. However, it may be that
announcing concerns during a meeting is too public of a setting.
If you ever have a time that JWCL could be of assistance, or if you know
of a club member that is in need please notify me, or any other member of the
board. Privacy will be
respected; however, we would like to help whenever we can.
Our members give so much to their community; we want to make sure that we
give back to them when needed. Last,
but not least, I am going to try to hold a committee meeting in the next few
months. Thank you to everyone that
volunteered to be on the Membership Committee.
I am looking forward to working with each of you.
I am in desperate need of an assistant/ Sunshine Chair person.
Someone who would coordinate JWCL Member Dinners, handle birthday and
anniversary recognition and manage secret pal stuff.
This would be a great job for anyone interested in serving on the board
in the future. I promise it would
not be too much work; it would just help me by taking some of the routine things
off of my hands. If you are
interested in serving in this capacity please let me know.
the
TREASURER’S REPORT from Elinor
The
current checking balance is $12,864.61; Savings is $2,317.72. Dues of
$35.00 are to be paid by the end of the month (they were due in September).
Payment can be made at the meeting or mailed to me. If a name tag was
ordered the cost is $6.50 payable to the club. Payment for T-Shirts goes
to Linda.
a REPORT ON WATERFORD from Cheryl
and Pam, Ways & Means CO-CHAIRS Thanks
to everyone who helped make Waterford such a success!
We were blessed with cool weather (some rain), hungry fair-goers, and
great volunteers from club! Everyone
seemed to enjoy the muffins, and baked goods – thanks to all the bakers. Also, thanks to those who worked the booth or helped behind
the scenes. Based on the submission
date for the newsletter, we do not yet have the details on the profits from the
fair, but all indications are that we did GREAT (about $5000 in profit).
We will brief the specifics at the upcoming October regular meeting.
We will also be talking about things that worked well or that could be
improved for coming years…. if you have suggestions, bring them to the meeting
or give Cheryl or Pam a call. Also,
for those that are interested in being a member of the club’s Fundraising
Committee, please see Cheryl or Pam. We’ll
have a meeting this fall to discuss lessons learned and improvements to our
existing fundraisers (e.g., Waterford Fair and Spring Sale), as well as explore
options for NEW opportunities. If
you have any ideas, let us know! Remember,
we are first-and-foremost a service organization.
All funds raised at our fundraising events directly support local Loudoun
County needs. Let’s continue to
discuss great ways to give back to our community! A Reminder from Heather, club Historian Volunteer Opportunities from Rosalyn, Northern
District Arts Chairman Very
Special Arts of Loudoun invites you to participate in their "Casino Night -
Clowning Around" fundraiser for Loudoun Disability Coalition (which also
includes Blue Ridge Speech & Hearing, another of the organizations we
support). Very Special Arts is a
GFWC Special Project and my special emphasis as Arts Chair for the Northern
District as I have a disabled niece. VSA
is an organization dedicated to providing quality art programs for children and
adults with disabilities. They
create opportunities in music, dance, drama and the visual arts.
Recently, VSA Loudoun opened an art studio in Round Hill, the da Vinci
Studio, which provides opportunities for disabled individuals to create arts.
We have supported this organization in the past, both financially and by working
their refreshment stand at their play last spring. It would be great to
support them in this major fundraising event (plus it might give us some
ideas!). Gather a group and go "Clown Around"! If
you'd like to help by volunteering to serve, they are looking for additional
casino dealers. No experience is
necessary, as training is provided. You
would arrive at 5:45 p.m. for training, be provided the buffet dinner after
training and then the tables are open from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. You
will have breaks, so you can see what else is going on. I
will have a sign-up list at the October meeting, or contact me.
Thanks! OCTOBER
