A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, MICHELLE T Hello Ladies! First, of all I want to thank everyone that gave of their time and talents to our Waterford Fundraiser this year. A special note of thanks to Pam S and Kate M and their committee for having instituted so many great changes this year and for being incredibly organized, their hard work made everything easier for the rest of us. I hope everyone that worked at the fair enjoyed it as much as I did. At our meeting in September Jennifer S announced that Rebecca M, Cheryl K, Shari H, and Beth R have agreed to be Department Chairs for the remainder of the 2004 – 05 term. Most clubs in our district and across the state operate with department chairs to help organize volunteer opportunities and assist with reporting for their departments. The departments we are using are designated by our international organization, the General Federation of Woman’s Club, and are as follows; Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs, and Public Affairs. As our club has grown larger so has the need for more and varied volunteer opportunities which require greater organization on our part. It is our hope that by adding these positions we will be better able to meet the needs of our membership and our community. We have many major events coming up over the next few months; our first ever Silent Auction to benefit Easter Seals at our November meeting, our 3rd annual Oktoberfest social on November 6, getting started on our service projects – Fairy Tale Closet and Children’s Safety Fair, and a Membership Dessert in early 2005. Each of these activities provides an excellent opportunity to get more involved with JWCL. So mark your calendars, read your newsletter, and come to the meetings to learn more about how you can help. See you at the October meeting.
A NOTE FROM JENNIFER S, FIRST VICE PRESIDENT Thanks to Shari H, Cheryl K, Rebecca M, and Beth R for agreeing to be our JWCL Department Chairs! Shari will chair the department of Public Affairs and International Affairs, Cheryl will chair the department of Education, Rebecca will chair the department of Home Life and Beth will chair the department of Arts and Conservation. If you have a volunteer opportunity or a project idea that you think falls under one of these departments please contact the appropriate department chair or myself. I will aid all of these departments with coordinating and reporting on projects and will be the reporting liaison for Public Relations, Fundraising, Leadership, Legislation, Membership and Community Improvement. Speaking of reporting…the Northern District will be holding a reporting workshop on November 10th at 11:30 a.m. in Falls Church. I will be attending and anyone who is interested is welcome to join me. The deadline to register for the workshop is November 5, 2004. Just give me a call if you are interested in attending.
A MEMBERSHIP MESSAGE FROM HEATHER M, second vice president Welcome to Shannon L and Kim F, who attended our September meeting. We hope to see you both again soon! Congratulations to Vickie F on her initiation at our September meeting! We have many members signed up to attend our Oktoberfest celebration at Great Country Farms on November 6. If you would like to go but have not signed up, please let me know. We are looking forward to a great time! Remember, if you ever have any membership concerns, know of a member in need, or have a friend interested in JWCL, please contact me.. Please continue to invite your friends, family members and neighbors to our meetings and events!
THE TREASURER’S REPORT FROM ELINOR M In the month of September the beginning checking balance was $5569.72, we made deposits in the amount of $668.00 and checks were written that totaled $1519.00. Our end of September balance is $4718.72. Thanks to everyone who has paid their dues. If you missed the last meeting, please pay your annual dues at the next meeting. The amount is $36.00.
a NOTE from Kate M and Pam S, FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE Co-CHAIRS Well Waterford has come and gone, which means days are getting shorter, nights are getting colder and the holidays are that much closer! Yeah! Thanks to everyone who helped to make the Waterford fundraiser a success.... We were able to raise more than $3500! It really was a team effort ... we couldn't have done it so seemlessly without everyone's effort from setup, baking, selling to stirring stew. We also need to thank the various local businesses who donated items for the event: Sam's, Target, Sheetz, Giant, and Food Lion. We are writing up a summary of this year's Waterford Fundraiser. Let Pam or Kate know if you have lessons learned from this year or improvement suggestions for next year! It is time to put Waterford into the back of our minds and start to focus our attention on the coming Holiday season. There is a lot to look forward to this time of year - Halloween, Oktoberfest, Holiday Coalition activities and planning Thanksgiving gatherings. This year JWCL is going to help get you through the holiday hustle and bustle with our own Holiday Silent Auction! To raise money to support Camp Easter Seals we will be having a Silent Auction and Social at our November 16th meeting. We are accumulating an array of donated items and are looking forward to the excitement the auction is sure to create. We have gift certificates from salons, a dinner for two from Maggiano's restaurant and pottery from the Pot & Bead to name just a few of the items you will find at the auction. We plan to have a variety of items created by our talented JWCL membership as well. If you have finished all of your holiday shopping already, come out and bring a friend to enjoy tea and desserts and share in the fun. If you have an item(s) you would like to donate or if there is a business you would like to approach for a donation, please call Pam or Kate for details.
Make A Difference Day…………. Thank you all for your interest in donating items to fill baskets for Holiday Coalition in support of Make A Difference Day on October 23rd. Please bring the items you signed up for to the next club meeting on October 19th . The size of the item you choose is up to your discretion. All the items will be distributed as needed so the families get exactly what they need. Thank you for your participation!
