A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, MICHELLE T Hello Ladies, this month I wanted to let you know about a fellow club woman that we should be very proud of. Being part of JWCL and of the larger organization gives us the power to have an impact on our community and the world around us through volunteering; however, it also allows us to impact our own lives by developing leadership skills. Many of you have served as leaders in our club or in other organizations and you are aware of not only the pride of being a good leader, but also the skills that you can develop when you place yourself in a leadership role. I am proud to announce that another of our very own JWCL members will be “stepping out of her element” and into a leadership role for our district. Elinor M, our current 1st Vice President has been nominated as 3rd Vice President, Director of Junior Clubs for the Northern District of GFWC Virginia. In addition to being slated as Junior Director, Elinor applied for and was selected as GFWC, Virginia’s candidate for LEADS (Leadership Education And Development Seminar). This is a yearly leadership seminar that takes place at the GFWC International Convention. This year’s convention will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Elinor will receive leadership training from some of the trainers in the United States, as well as be given the opportunity to meet and mingle with the leadership of GFWC from across our nation and around the world. We should be very proud of Elinor for stepping up to a greater leadership role and for the fact that she represents JWCL so well. If you are interested in honing your leadership skills there are several opportunities over the next few months. Our district meeting will be held on Saturday, March 25 in Herndon. If you have never attended a district or state event this is an easy way to be introduced to our larger organization. A fun way to learn more about our state organization is to attend the Spring GFWC Virginia Convention in Roanoke, VA on May 5 – 7. I will have more information including a sign up sheet for both meetings available at JWCL’s February meeting. On a more local note we will begin looking for a slate of JWCL officers for 2006 – 2007 very soon. Perhaps it is time to challenge yourself and take on a leadership role either on our board or as a department chair. If you are interested in JWCL leadership for this next term please let me or Stephanie M know so that we can make sure that your name is mentioned for consideration. I’ll end with a quote often used by our own Lori R, current 3rd VP, Director of Junior Clubs for the Northern District, ……as John Maxwell states in his book Developing the Leader Within You, “Leadership is not an exclusive club for those who are ‘born with it’. The traits that are the raw materials of leadership can be acquired. Link them up with the desire and nothing can keep you from becoming a leader.” Now is the time to develop your leader within! Take a chance and step out of your element! Once again congratulations to Elinor M on behalf of her very proud fellow clubwomen!

Kudos to our Department Chairmen, Rebecca, Beth and Erin and our Special Projects Chairmen, Jen S., Pam, Kate, Shannon and Heather for preparing the reports. Most of all, Thanks goes to each one of you for making all of our clubwork possible JWCL would not be able to accomplish all that it does without its members. It was another great year; pat yourselves on the back ladies!
