A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, MICHELLE T

Hello and Happy Easter,

As you are celebrating Easter weekend and the onset of a beautiful Spring here in Northern Virginia, I thought I would let you know that we have one more thing to celebrate this April.  In April of 1951 our club, the Junior Woman’s Club of Loudoun, was founded.  We have been in service to our community for over fifty five years.  Our first club president was Mrs. Robert C Lee. She served from 1951 – 1954.  I wonder what she would think if she could see us now?   The women that founded our club all those years ago would be proud of the kind of service that we are still providing today.  We, in turn, should be grateful for the sense of responsibility that led them to found an organization that we still find valuable today.

This year to celebrate our “birthday” I am asking each of you to consider making a donation to Birthday Blessings, Inc.  ( http://www.birthdayblessing.org/ ).  Birthday Blessings is a non-profit organization which provides birthday presents anonymously to underprivileged children age 3 - 16.  To quote their website, “At Birthday Blessing we believe when children don’t receive a birthday present on their special day they feel left out and forgotten. Long-term, this can potentially damage a child’s self-esteem. In order to help these children, we have created Birthday Blessing.”  Each child receives three small presents totaling $30 in value.  The organization is in desperate need of presents for older children, some ideas are: sporting equipment, gift cards, books, electronic equipment (CD players, cameras, etc) and luggage.

Please bring your unwrapped donation to our April meeting.  If you are unable to attend the meeting, but would like to make a donation, please contact our Birthday Blessing’s chairman, Angela F, coordinate a time to drop off your donation to her.  If you are unable to shop for a donation but would still like to participate, you can make a monetary donation by writing a check to Birthday Blessings and either bringing it to the meeting or mailing it to Angela.

Thank you for participating in this celebration of our fifty-five years of service and even bigger thanks for being part of our future service to this community and our world.  As we celebrate this milestone we are actually celebrating the dedication of all the women that came before us as well as our own dedication!  Your commitment is amazing!

A NOTE  FROM KATE M & SHANNON L,  - FUND RAISING CO-CHAIRS

Spring Yard Sale :    Of course it rained the day of our fundraiser… we have come to expect it.  But it didn’t flood and it didn’t keep the die-hards away from a bargain!  We kept the garage doors open until almost noon on Saturday and were able to open on Sunday as well thanks to the last minute help from Shannon L. and Amy H.   We appreciate all your help in getting ready for the sale.  We had loads of things to sell and everything went so smoothly because of the work you had done to organize and prepare your donations.    And from the sale of all the stuff you thought nobody would want we made a grand total of $368.00!  (clap, clap, clap)

A HUGE thank you  to Jen M for allowing us to use have the sale at her house and making herself available all weekend for the yard sale!!!

3rd Annual Silent Auction:   You may think it is too early but we are already gearing up for the 3rd Annual Silent Auction.  Believe it or not, some letters for donation requests will be going out this month!     If you haven’t been able to help out with this event the past two years, please make an effort to do so this year.  A lot of the work can be done over the telephone.  More news on this event will be coming soon.

REMINDER ABOUT CLUB SOCIAL……………..

Please remember that we will be meeting at the Pot & Bead in Ashburn for a social event.  It will be on April 28th from 7-9 p.m.  The club will provide food.  If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Heather M
