A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, PAM
Happy Thanksgiving! As I was returning home tonight from working at Holiday Coalition with fellow JWCL club women, I was thinking about how THANKFUL I am to be part of such a talented group of outgoing women! Whether we’re pulling off a huge fundraiser or just pushing up our sleeves and helping in the community, we are making a positive impact in Loudoun County. Thank you ladies for your time and dedication! Our next club meeting will be this coming Tuesday, November 21st @ 7:30pm. It should be a short meeting, so let’s plan some social time to meet at Tuskie’s following the meeting. For those of you that will be traveling next week, please be safe and see you in December for our Ladies Night Out! Thought for the month: “When we do the best that we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another”. – Helen Keller, 1880-1968, American Blind/Deaf Author and Lecturer =-) Pam **************************************************************************************** A NOTE FROM REBECCA, 1st VICE PRESIDENT / REPORTING CHAIR Don’t forget to complete and send in any Club Project/ Program Summary (PPS) sheets! **************************************************************************************** A MESSAGE FROM RONNA, 2nd VICE PRESIDENT / MEMBERSHIP CHAIR Ladies, We are now officially in the holiday season. With so much to be thankful for and to share, we truly are fortunate. And our club and communities are lucky too as they benefit from the intelligence, dedication, and generosity of each of our members. With such high caliber women in our club, we can surely do great things! In the last two months, we grew by four members. Joelle C and Dawn M joined us in September. Amy B and Lynne P joined us in October. Please welcome our newest members when you see them. Please make plans to join us for the December Ladies Night Out. The meeting will be held one week earlier than usual. It's scheduled for Tuesday, December 12th, at 7:30p at the River Creek Club. We'll be served a three course meal while conducting our club business. Unfortunately, due to a change in the management, chef, and inflation, the cost for the dinner will be a bit higher than last year. It will be $32 and must be pre-paid to me by cash or a check made out to JWCL to reserve your seat. It will be worth the extra money though as dinner will include a salad, a delicious entree, fresh breads, coffee and ice tea, and dessert all prepared by a former White House chef; not to mention the great company and conversation! Please RSVP and pay no later than November 30th to me. We will vote at the November meeting for the choice of entree. If you are unable to make the November meeting, but will be attending the dinner, you may vote by emailing me with your RSVP, but you must also indicate how I can receive your payment by the deadline. The choices are:
This may be our last formal dinner like this due to inflation and growing concerns of cost. The membership committee will be brainstorming ideas to rethink our Ladies Night Out events. If you have any ideas for ways to continue this wonderful outing while minimizing our out-of-pocket costs, please let me know. As such, I hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy one last splurge by attending in December. Also, in an effort to build our relationships, we'll be hosting more informal gatherings. Our first attempt at these was a Let's Dish party and was very successful and fun. The membership committee has begun a list of ideas for these gatherings. This starter list is included at the end of this newsletter – please feel free to review them and suggest others. And please let us know which of these, if any, you might like to try and we'll compile that information to get one scheduled after the start of the New Year. You may select multiple events in your voting as we would like to have them fairly regularly. The membership directory is taking form. I have begun creating the pages themselves, but I'm still missing information and pictures from several people. If you have not yet completed your directory questionnaire, please do so before the end of November. I also need pictures by the end of the month. I hope to have the directory ready to print for the December meeting. Please help me accomplish this. I'll be contacting those of you who owe me pictures and/or information soon so that the directory will be as complete and up-to-date as possible. Also, I thought it would be nice to add leadership roles that each of you have assumed during your JWCL career. So, if you have ever held office at any level (club, regional, or state level); please email me the year(s) you served and the official title of that position for inclusion on your page. Let's continue to grow our prospectives this year and build up our wonderful club. If you know of anyone who is looking to volunteer and wants to meet new people, tell them about the great work we do. And tell me if you would like me to contact them to personally invite them to a meeting. I have been working with Michelle, Lori, and Pam to get our recruiting records sorted out with State. We have some wonderful recruiters in the club and I hope to recognize them soon with recruiting stars and a list of their current year totals next month. Your name can be on that list by inviting just one friend, neighbor, co-worker, relative, cohort, or associate to our next meeting. Please join us in walking in the Leesburg Holiday parade on December 2nd. The parade starts at Ida Lee, so we'll meet together a bit beforehand for the parade line-up and to get organized. We'll be passing out little bottles of anti-bacterial gel to the women in the crowd. The gel bottles will have attached to them a JWCL label inviting the women to "Make a Clean Start in 2007" by attending our January recruiting event or next meeting. We'd like to have a strong showing from our club at this event, so if you can walk with us, please sign up at the meeting, or let myself or Pam know of your intentions. Thank you and I'll see you on Tuesday! Ronna **************************************************************************************** A MESSAGE FROM JEN M Jen wanted to extend a big “Thank You” to everyone who has been volunteering for Meals on Wheels. The new sign up sheet for next year will be available at our next meeting. And now for a little humor… A cat died and went to Heaven. God met her at the gates and said, "You have been a good cat all these years. Anything you want is yours for the asking." The cat thought for a minute and then said, "All my life I lived on a farm and slept on hard wooden floors. I would like a real fluffy pillow to sleep on." God said, "Say no more." Instantly the cat had a huge fluffy pillow. A few days later, six mice were killed in an accident and they all went to Heaven together. God met the mice at the gates with the same offer that He made to the cat. The mice said, "Well, we have had to run all of our lives: from cats, dogs, and even people with brooms! If we could just have some little roller skates, we would not have to run again." God answered, "It is done." All the mice had beautiful little roller skates. About a week later, God decided to check on the cat. He found her sound asleep on her fluffy pillow. God gently awakened the cat and asked, "Is everything okay? How have you been doing? Are you happy?" The cat replied, "Oh, it is WONDERFUL. I have never been so happy in my life. The pillow is so fluffy, and those little Meals on Wheels you have been sending over are delicious!” **************************************************************************************** NOTE: UPCOMING MADD CHECKPOINTS There are two upcoming Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
