JWCL October 2006
Meeting Summary (10/17/06)
Meeting
Highlights:
1.
Lynne P and Amy B were installed as new
members.
2.
Fundraising Co-Chair Melissa S informed the
club that we grossed over $5600 at Waterford. Expenses are
still being compiled. It is estimated our profit will be
between $2500 and $3000. The final total will be announced
at next month’s meeting.
3.
Elinor M attended our meeting in her official
role as GFWC-VA Northern District 3rd Vice
President/ Director of Junior Clubs for GFWC-VA Northern
District. She shared her experiences as the GFWC-VA LEADS
representative at the GFWC LEADS seminar in Denver this past
spring. She encouraged her fellow club members to "step out
of their comfort zones" and volunteer for leadership
positions in club.
4.
Treasurer Amy H informed the club that annual
dues are due by the December meeting. The cost of dues is
$38. She stated that she will soon start preparing the
budget for next year. She asked that committee and
department chairs review their sections of the budget and
provide input.
5.
2nd Vice- President Ronna S
discussed the Thanksgiving Celebration potluck dinner for
club members and their families. The dinner will take place
on November 11th at 5 p.m. at Ronna’s house.
Club members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to
share. Please RVSP to Ronna if you have not done so
already.
6.
The Membership committee is sponsoring
informal get-togethers for members. Ronna is planning a
private party at Let’s Dish next month. Anyone who is
interested in attending, please contact Ronna.
7.
JWCL will be walking in the Leesburg Christmas
Parade on December 2nd. One idea is to hand
out antibacterial lotion / wipes to women in the crowd. The
handouts would have our club information on them and
invitations to our January Membership Event. If you have
any other ideas, contact Pam or Ronna. There will be more
details at the next meeting.
8.
JWCL will be participating in the Make a
Difference Day on October 28th at the Harper Park
Middle School. This is a volunteer fair that will feature
thirty volunteer organizations. This event takes place from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
9.
JWCL is participating in Operation Christmas
Child again this year. This program is sponsored by
Samaritan’s Purse. Shoeboxes filled with toys, school
supplies and socks are sent to children in 85 countries
around the world. For more information on this program,
