A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, PAM

                                                                 April 2007

♫  HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US……  HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR JWCL, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!  ♫

We are officially 56 years old, ladies!   Our club history and our community support have been going on for decades.    It is amazing to think of all the women that have participated in someway with club throughout the years.    How much Loudoun County has changed in those fifty-plus years?    But as much as things change, they stay the same.   Our club is still focused on giving back to the community, to volunteering and making a difference, and to supporting our fellow members through all of life’s travels.

This month I received a personal phone call from Barbara Simpson, the President and CEO of Blue Ridge Speech and Hearing.  She was calling to thank us.  She thanked us for our most recent charitable donation that we voted on in March.  She also thanked us for our club’s long history with Blue Ridge.  Did you know that our club founded this organization back in 1964?   Ladies, our events and services directly impact the TODAYS and TOMORROWS of this county.  Look at Fairy Tale Closet.  It was the brainchild of one of our members, Teri and now it is a staple in our community.  AMAZING LADIES doing AMAZING THINGS!  Keep thinking of new great ideas; keep supporting all the wonderful events.  Challenge yourselves and each other to give an event bigger gift of volunteering this month in celebration of our birthday!

Some acknowledgements:

bulletThank you to all those that supported Fairy Tale Closet last month.  You made dreams come true for so many young ladies.  Emily and Lea – thank you for your leadership!
bulletThanks to the membership committee for continuing to coordinate the informal gatherings.  I heard the card making session this month was great.  I would have loved to have been there to nurture my creative side (which doesn’t get a lot of attention these days), but instead I was finding creative ways to overcome the stomach bug.
bulletThanks to the nominating and bylaw committees for helping shape the future of our club in such a positive way!

You will find many exciting events coming up over the next few months (e.g., Sr. Citizens Day, Relay for Life, and March for Dimes).  Even if you are unable to attend the meeting, watch for the meeting summary email which includes point of contacts for each event.

Our next meeting is this coming Tuesday, April 17th.  Come celebrate with us.  Remember to bring a gift to donate to Birthday Blessings (www.birthdayblessings.org).

=-) Pam

A MESSAGE FROM RONNA,2nd VICE PRESIDENT / MEMBERSHIP CHAIR

 Hi Ladies,

I hope you all received your invitation to join the JWCL website last week.  I think you'll find this website helpful for learning names and faces, as well as for sharing information.  I've also posted other files for club use, such as the logos for the club and for GFWC, and the documents found in your member information packet.  The calendar is another feature of the site.  I've updated it to the best of my knowledge with our meetings, events, and activities.  Please spend some time on the site and let me know how you like it.

Thank you to those of you who filled out the Ladies Night Out survey!  Your answers will be used to plan upcoming events.  I received responses from about half of the club members regarding the Ladies Nights Out.  If you have not yet responded, but would like your choices known, please either e-mail me your answers or print out the survey and bring it to me at the next meeting.  I will have some copies on hand as well that you can fill out and return to me after the meeting.  Responses must be received by Sunday, April 15th to be counted.

The informal gatherings have been going well.  I hope that everyone will make the time to attend an event.  We always have fun.

We had seven ladies come to the Card Making event.  Becca did a fabulous job coordinating everyone and making sure our cards made it to the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS) for distribution to their clients.  We had a great time!

The family egg hunt is scheduled for this Sunday, April 15th, at 2p at Hamilton Park.  Should it rain or snow, the event will be moved to my home.  Anyone wishing to attend should RSVP to me by Friday, April 15th with the names of the kids who will be hunting the eggs and any preferences on what you do not want placed in their eggs (ex. no bubblegum).  Members without kids are welcome to attend too to watch the fun.

The May informal gathering information will be sent out soon, so keep your eye out for it!

See you Tuesday!    Ronna

A MESSAGE FROM ANGELA ABOUT BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS

REMINDER - please bring a gift for a child for Birthday Blessings with you to this Tuesday’s meeting. Since April is our birthday month, we think it appropriate to celebrate our club’s formation by helping those in need to celebrate their own birthdays.  Sharon, president of Birthday Blessings, informed me that they were especially in need of more gifts for the teenagers - boy and girls.  Some examples for the teenagers are: CD's (variety of music), gift cards, sports equipment, board games, books (for example, Chicken Soup for Teenagers), colorful watches, and make up kits.  These are just suggestions.  They are always in need of gifts for the older kids and she is very appreciative of all that we give and donate. Thank you.
