A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, RONNA S

C:\Documents and Settings\Ronna Schenk\My Documents\JWCL documents\2007 - 2008 Presidency\hero stuff\Justice League Logo.tif

Ladies,

A new year of club is upon us!  For those of you who were unable to attend the June Ladies Night Out, I'd like to inform you of some secret information...I discovered that JWCL really stands for something besides Junior Women's Club of Loudoun.  In fact, those letters stand for "Juniors Willingly Changing Lives."  And how appropriate this is because, my friends, this is what we do.

Our club is filled with amazing women, everyday heroes, who possess unique and incredible gifts, which they use for the good of others.  As a club and individually, you use your talents and skills to create better communities for all of us.  You perform good deeds and miracles throughout the year using your secret powers.  We may not wear capes or have a superpower, but we are triumphing over evil and doing good in the world.

I found a great quote that sums up how I feel about all of you, my friends and fellow JWCLers:

Few of us will do the spectacular deeds of heroism that spread themselves across the pages of our newspapers in big black headlines.  But we can all be heroic in the little things of everyday life.  We can do the helpful things, say the kind words, meet our difficulties with courage and high hearts, stand up for the right when the cost is high, keep our word even though it means sacrifice, be a giver instead of a destroyer.  Often this quiet, humble heroism is the greatest heroism of all.  - Wilfred A. Peterson

Each of us has a gift to share with others:  something that makes us unique and especially qualified to take on a new opportunity to serve our community.  This year, we strive to find that talent and use it to help those less fortunate than ourselves.  We may not be superheroes, but because of your commitment to doing good for others and your generosity in time, spirit, and talents, you are super and you are a hero!

Ladies, there is a hero in each one of us!  Indeed, there is a hero in you!  Find her!

Your fearless leader,   Ronna

A MESSAGE FROM THEFUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

The Toasting The Stars Silent Auction will take place on Saturday, August 18th at Tarara Winery.  With the hard work of everyone we have items with a retail value of over $15,000.  There will be about 80 items up for bidding at the auction.  There are still volunteering opportunities available.  Please contact Joey C if you can volunteer at the auction.  Also, please plan on attending what should be a very special evening.  Tickets are still available by contacting Lori R.

The Waterford Festival is coming upon us before you know it.  We are already moving forward with this signature event.  The dates are October 5th, 6th and 7th.  Please put these dates on your calendar now to volunteer since we need the support of the whole club at this event.   We will let you know soon about baking and volunteering opportunities.

A MESSAGE FROM AMY B ABOUT MEALS ON WHEELS

Hello Ladies,   We will now be delivering Meals on Wheels the 1st two Wednesdays of each month.  August is filled…thanks!    I will not be able to attend the meeting on Tuesday.   However, there will be a new sign-up sheet for September -November.

Please look at the sign-up sheet and if there are any Wednesday’s that you can volunteer to deliver meals, please let me know.  If you haven’t done it before or are new to club and want more info, please don’t hesitate to ask.  Please e-mail me directly.   It is a quick 30 minutes to volunteer and we are providing a tremendous help to the community.  Thank you!

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE NEWS FROM K

The Membership Committee is off to an exciting start.  We hope to plan a few fun social activities so that the club members could really get to know each other.  Some ideas that are floating around are a night a Rouge Day Spa, a Lets Dish night or just a good old fashioned happy hour at a member's house!  If you have any exciting ideas please contact Kalpana R.

JWCL is pleased to welcome Kate H into the club.  She lives in Leesburg and is a mom and a mechanical engineer!  She enjoys gardening and traveling.  If you see Kate at the next meeting, go over and introduce yourself.

Marilyn S brought Neda M to the last meeting as a prospective member.   Neda has 2 children and is interested in Project Graduation.  Please make her feel welcome so that she may want to join our lovely club.

Speaking of new members, Jen O welcomed Sean Patrick as a new member of her family.  He was born on July 25th and weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces.  Congratulations to the entire O'Riley family on our behalf.

A MESSAGE FROM PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

Just a friendly reminder from PR to use this last week before the Silent Auction to continue to promote the event.  While it is now last minute, it is also the time when many people know now their schedule and whether they are free or not.  There are a lot of great items up for auction totally over $15,000 retail value.  So tell your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers and lets get people out to bid and raise money for great causes!!

As some of you know, Emily H volunteers and fosters for the Virginia German Shepherd Rescue.  She currently has a need for old blankets, comforters, towels or even old sheets for the dogs.  If you happen to have any of these items you could donate, please bring to them to the meeting or contact Emily directly.

 AND AN EXTRA…

As some of you know, Emily Hartman volunteers and fosters for the Virginia German Shepherd Rescue.  She currently has a need for old blankets, comforters, towels or even old sheets for the dogs.  If you happen to have any of these items you could donate, please bring to them to the meeting or contact Emily directly.
