“Life is a journey” …. That is the theme that I chose last summer for the 2006-2007 JWCL club year. I never could have imagined how fitting it would be to the storms and sunshine that life has to offer. First, I am glad to be back to JWCL work after taking the month off in January. Thank you to all those who “held the wheel” last month, especially those that guided us so smoothly through the annual reporting cycle (Rebecca, Michelle and so many others). Also, thank you to those that sent well wishes to my husband, Brett, and I on welcoming our little Eliza Grace. Our family is adjusting to life with a new baby. So far the only “special needs” we are realizing are the need for mommy and daddy to have a few more hours in the day (and at night) ☺ So what lies ahead for JWCL in the near future …. SPRING!!! And with the soon-to-be warm weather comes lots of fun and many rewarding opportunities to volunteer. Here are just a few: · Help with Fairy Tale Closet in March and be a teenager’s “fairy god-mother” for a day. · Consider attending the 100th anniversary celebration at the GFWC-VA State Convention in Roanoke (the weekend of April 20-22). · Sign up to walk for a special cause, like March of Dimes or Relay for Life. · Love to plan FUN events? Help the fundraising committee with Spring Silent Auction. Finally, during this month of LOVE ♥, please remember to take every opportunity to hug and support those that are dear to you! This club is so much more than a group of women who volunteer. JWCL continues to show its HEART and SOUL through YOUR generosity and willingness to support the community and each other. Please keep Misty in your prayers this month. “Team Misty” has had incredible response with so many volunteering to help out. We will discuss more opportunities for helping hands at this month’s club meeting. So, our JWCL journey continues into 2007. See you next TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20th @ 7:30pm for our monthly meeting! Thought for the month: “I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship”. -Louisa May Alcott, 1832-1888, American Novelist
**************************************************************************************** A MESSAGE FROM RONNA,2nd VICE PRESIDENT / MEMBERSHIP CHAIR Hi Ladies, We would like to welcome as a new member Shawnda. She was installed at the January meeting. She met some of us when we were working at the Holiday Coalition and decided to join. Congratulations, Shawnda, and we are glad you are one of us now. Our first official informal gathering will be held on March 9th from 6p until midnight at Recollections in Sterling. Directions and information about the store can be found at their website, http://www.recollectionsonline.com/index.html. After scrapping with a few of you and knowing that there are lots of artsy folks in our club, we thought this would be a great way to socialize indoors during this cold season. While the class we would be registering for is a crop night, please keep in mind that you don't have to scrapbook, per se, to enjoy the outing. All paper crafters, card makers, stampers, and other crafters are welcome to use the room and tools available at Recollections during the class. The cost is only $15 and includes dinner, use of the workspace and all the tools in the room, and a goodie bag; plus you are eligible to receive door prizes during the class. If you are interested, please let me know by Wednesday, February 21st, so that I can set us up as a group so that we can all sit together. I'll also need to collect the $15 from you prior to the RSVP date, so you can either bring it to the meeting or mail it to me. I've submitted our watering cans for all the recruiting our members did in 2006 and January 2007. You all have done a great job growing our membership! In this time period, we gained 11 wonderful members and have several prospectives who are in the process of becoming members. As part of this initiative, the following members have all earned consideration for the District's Master Gardener award: Carolyn (1), Lori (1), Michelle (1), Shannon (1), Rebecca (1), Ronna (1), Stephanie (2), and Angela (3). I've also submitted paperwork to update our club recruiting information with the State so that we can honor our recruiters. We'll all hear more about these recognitions later in the year. See you next week! Ronna **************************************************************************************** A MESSAGE FROM EMILY ABOUT FAIRY TALE CLOSET Fairy
Tale Closet dress and formal accessory collection has begun. As a reminder the
event is scheduled for March 24 from 8am - 2pm at the Hampton Inn & Suites in
Leesburg. The committee is doing an awesome job contacting businesses for
donations however we could really use the help of the whole club in spreading
the word. So far we are not getting much acknowledgement from local HOAs or the
local press. We will continue to follow-up with them but would appreciate any
connections anyone might be willing to share with us. If so, please contact
Emily or Lea. **************************************************************************************** A NOTE FROM MELISSA & SHANNON, FUND RAISING COMMITTEE CO-CHAIRS The Fundraising Committee is hard at work on this year's Silent Auction, and we welcome your insight and ideas (as always!). We'll be holding a general fundraising meeting on February 27 to discuss the Auction and other committee news. Please let Shannon or Melissa know if you'd like to attend, or if you have ideas for the Auction. ****************************************************************************************
Happy Birthday to all of you!!! Happy Anniversary to all of you!!!
