JWCL February 2007 Meeting Summary2/20/07 Meeting Highlights
1.
Melanie F was installed as a new member.
2.
A strategic fundraising meeting will take place on
February 27th at 7 p.m. at Michelle T’s house. Plans for the
Silent Auction will be discussed. Anyone interested in planning this event
is welcome to attend. Contact Shannon L or Melissa S for more information.
3.
2nd Vice- President Ronna S informed the
club an informal social event will take place on March 9th at Recollections
in the Potomac Run shopping center in Sterling. JWCL will be hosting a
scrapbook night from 6 p.m. to midnight. The cost of this event will be $15,
which includes dinner and all supplies. Contact Ronna for more information.
4. Ronna informed the club that she
hopes to have the membership directory completed by the end of the month.
Members will be able to download the directory from the club’s web site. The
directory will only be accessible by using a password.
5.
Members donated cash, books, and toys to help fill
back packs to give to Misty S’s children. These back packs will help to keep
them entertained when they go to Misty’s appointments and to the
babysitter’s house. If anyone is interested in helping Misty and her family
by preparing dinners and/or babysitting, they are welcome to join “Team
Misty” which is being organized by Jen S. For more information, contact Jen.
6.
The Fairy Tale Closet committee has asked if members
have contacts with the media,
businesses, or HOAs to let them know.
They want to get the word out about the event. Volunteers are also needed
for set up on March 23rd and to work the event on March 24th.

7.
Relay for Life takes place on May 19th and
20th at Heritage High School. JWCL has
had a team for this event the past two
years. Family and friends are welcome to participate. For more information,
contact Rebecca M.
8.
This year GFWC-VA will be celebrating their centennial
year. In honor of this event, GFWC-VA will have a centennial scroll which
will be keep at the GFWC International headquarters. For a $100 donation
individuals and clubs can have their names added to this scroll. The money
from these donations goes to the state endowment fund. A motion was made to
make a $100 donation to GFWC-VA to have JWCL listed on the centennial
scroll. The motion passed.
9.
A motion was made to give a $50 donation to VSA out of
the arts line item in the budget, to give a $50 donation to LARC from the
health line item and to give a $50 donation to Blue Ridge Speech and Hearing
from the health line item. The motion passed.
10.
Daffodil Days is a fundraiser sponsored by the
American Cancer Society. Volunteers are needed to deliver daffodils to
businesses and schools. This event takes place on March 13th.

Annual reporting was completed on January 25th.
JWCL completed 35 projects last year. 49 members donated over 800 volunteer
hours. JWCL donated over $17,833.52.
