A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, PAM

                                                                 March 2007

SPRING HAS SPRUNG; TIME TO SPRING INTO ACTION ….  It’s the time of year to get outside, get moving, and get rid of the winter coats (well, almost).    I’d like to challenge each of you to get even more motivated to volunteer.    There are a lot of on-going and upcoming events for you and your family to participate in.     Everyone’s schedule is very full, but this spring let’s each try to add at least one new service activity to the mix.    We have so many opportunities to touch the lives of those in need.   Here are just a few of those that we plan to support in the coming months:

·        Local teen girls at Fairy Tale Closet later this month

·        The elderly at Senior Citizens Day in May

·        Cancer survivors at upcoming “Relays and Walks”

·        Those that are hungry through our monthly support of Interfaith Relief

·        The homebound through our weekly support of Meals on Wheels

We’ll discuss these and many more service activities at our upcoming club meeting.

STRETCH THIS SPRING.  Choose one of these activities that you have not been involved in to-date and SIGN UP!

Hope to see everyone at the Club Meeting on March 20th @ 7:30pm.  We have some business to conduct, including discussing the upcoming efforts of the nominating and by-laws committees.  We’ll talk about any last minute details for Fairy Tale Closet to be held next weekend (March 23-24th).   Also, I’m very excited to discuss and celebrate the awards that we received last week at the Northern District luncheon.  I continue to be amazed by what such a great group of dedicated, devoted women can do!

Thought for the month:

"Real motivation is that drive from within.  You know where you are going because you have a compelling image inside, not a travel poster on the wall. "

(Dr. Denis Waitley, American Speaker on Success and Productivity)

A MESSAGE FROM RONNA,2nd VICE PRESIDENT / MEMBERSHIP CHAIR

 Ladies,

Last month, we welcomed a new member to the club.  Please introduce yourselves to Melanie.  She has already shown great dedication as she comes to our meetings from West Virginia.  Melanie, we are so happy to have you in our club!

I'm proud to announce that the JWCL Member Directory is up and ready for your perusal!  Soon, you will receive an email inviting you to join the JWCL Yahoo!Group.  By following the simple instructions, you'll be able to gain access to the site with your own Yahoo! user ID and password.  If you do not already have a Yahoo! user account, you can easily set one up and then view the site.

This site is for current, active members of the club only.  Access to it is restricted.  You can only gain access with the invitation to your specific email address.  Also, our site is not registered with the Yahoo!Directory, so the only people who know it is there are our club members.

As with the roster, any updates you wish to make to your page will need to be sent to me.  Speaking of updates, I still need pictures from some of you.  If you have a digital picture, you can email it to me and I can crop it and add it to your page.  Please get these pictures to me as soon as you can.  Please keep in mind that the purpose of this directory is to match names and faces, but that goal cannot be met when we all don't have our pictures included.

Attached to this newsletter, you'll find a questionnaire about our club Ladies Night Out events.  Please take a moment to fill this out thoroughly.  You can either turn it in at the meeting or email me your answers.  The membership committee needs to have your input by March 31st so that we can plan the June meeting according to the club consensus.  Keep in mind that this is your chance to voice your opinion about the June and December meetings.  Be honest, be candid, and be counted by turning in your vote by the deadline.

We had our first informal gathering of the year last Friday at Recollections.  Those of us that attended had a great time working on our crafts and sharing great conversation.

Our second informal gathering will take place on Sunday, March 25th, at 2:00p at my house.  We'll be making two sets of cards:  one to donate to LAWS or Transitional Housing, and one to keep for ourselves.  All materials and instructions will be provided; however, if you'd like to bring a snack to share, that would be fine.  Please RSVP to me by Sunday, March 18th, if you'd like to come so that we'll be sure to have enough materials for everyone.  Or, if you are going to be at the March meeting, you can tell me then.

For our April gathering, we are planning an egg hunt for the kids of JWCL members.  We know that not every member has kids, or has kids that are able and willing to participate, but we thought it would be fun anyway to bring the families together.  If you would like to volunteer (stuffing eggs, hiding eggs, or other such tasks), watch and enjoy great conversation, or participate with your child(ren), please let me know.  There will be a sign-up sheet at the meeting, or you can email me.  Please let me know how many kids will be participating and their names.  You can also specify things like "no candy" or "no bubblegum" if you want.  Don't worry!  It will be fair for even the littlest of hunters.  Each child will have to find eggs with their name on them, so each child is guaranteed to get the same amount of eggs.  The hunt will be held at Hamilton Park on April 15th at 2:00p.  RSVPs for this event are due by March 31st.

As you can see, we have a lot going on in the membership corner.  We are a strong club, but we can always use more hands to work our miracles.  If you know of a friend, colleague, neighbor, or acquaintance who would like to volunteer and meet new people, please tell them about our club and invite them to attend the next meeting.  We'd love to grow even stronger.

See you on Tuesday!   Ronna

A NOTE FROM THE BYLAW COMMITTEE

Attention JWCL Members - We need You!!

It is that time of year - time to review the JWCL Bylaws.  The Bylaws committee will be meeting in March and April to review and update the Bylaws.  They will be presented to the membership at the April or May meeting with a vote in May.

What are Bylaws? A set of laws/rules governing the internal affairs of an organization.

Where can I find the JWCL Bylaws?  In your Membership folder.

We need your input to help us ensure the Bylaws are meeting the needs of the club.  Are there things you would like to see done differently?  Do some of the bylaws need tweaking due to strange wording?  Do they need more clarification?

Feedback is due back to Lori by March 31st.

Please review your bylaws and send any recommendations to Lori.  Thanks to those members who stepped up to be on the Bylaw committee!! Members: Michelle, Jenn S, Becca, and Elinor.

Lori
