JWCL May 15th 2007 Meeting Summary

Meeting Highlights

 
  1. Kelly Lane, GFWC-Virginia 3rd Vice- President and Director of Junior Clubs was our special guest for the evening.
 
  1. Nominating Committee Chair Michelle T.  introduced the prospective officers for the new club year. An election was held. The following people will serve on the Board for the 2007-2008 club year;

  1. The June Ladies Night Out will take place on June 19th at Magnolia’s at the Mill in Purcellville at 7:30 p.m. Magnolia’s is allowing the club to select dinner from a set menu. The cost of the dinner will depend on what each member orders. Members must sign up for the dinner by June 5th. Contact Ronna for more information.
 
  1. The informal social for June will be held at Pot and Bead in Ashburn. The date of this event has yet to be determined. Those members interested in attending can contact Ronna .
 
5.       The annual GFWC VA convention took place on April 20-22 in Roanoke. GFWC VA celebrated its 100th anniversary. Six members from JWCL attended the convention. JWCL received the following GFWC-VA awards;

  1. Joey C gave an update on the upcoming Toasting the Stars silent auction which will take place at Tarara Winery on August 18th during the Sounds of Summer Concert Series. The Fundraising committee is asking for a “3/3 commitment” from each club member. The club is required to sell 150 tickets to the concert. Each member is asked to sell three tickets to the event. Tickets cost $10. The price for each ticket includes admission to the concert, wine tasting and the auction.  In order to pay the rental deposit for the winery’s pavilion, club members are asked to pre-pay for the tickets.  Each club member is also asked to solicit three businesses for auction items. It is expected that by doing this each member will be able contribute one item for the auction. Members can contact Joey for more information.
 
  1. Relay for Life will take place on May 19th and 20th at Heritage High School. The club will be purchasing luminaries in memory of Theresa R and in honor of Misty S and Jenn S. All club members are invited to a BBQ dinner at the club’s tent at 6:30 p.m on May 19th.
 
8.      Senior Citizens Day will take place on June 1st. The Area Agency on Aging has decided to change the activities at this event. There will no longer be a cake walk. AAA has asked us to supply volunteers to run a bingo game. This will take place from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Members interested in volunteering can contact Kate M..
 
9.      Bylaws Committee Chair Lori R presented the proposed changes to the Bylaws.
      A motion was made to adopt the changes to the Bylaws, with the exception to change  the annual dues from $39 to $40. The motion was passed. A motion was made to adopt the changes to the standing rules and general courtesies. The motion passed.
