JWCL November 13, 2007 Meeting Summary

Meeting Highlights 

1. The GFWC VA Northern District Fall Meeting took place on October 27^th at the Springfield Country Club.  Michelle T. was elected to serve as a State Nominating Committee representative. Lori R. will act as chairman of the District Nominating Committee.  The Northern District Spring meeting will take place in Chantilly on March 8^th.

 

2. Lori R. reported to the club about the GFWC Southeastern Regional meeting that took place in Williamsburg on November 2-4th.  The LEADS VA candidates gave speeches. Club projects were discussed.

 

3. Sunshine Chair Becca A. informed the members that instead of having two or three members provide snacks and drinks for each club meeting; one member would volunteer to be the Hostess for the Month. This Hostess will be in charge of providing snacks, drinks and paper products for that month’s club meeting.

 

4. Fundraising Chair Joey C. informed the members that the total sales income for Waterford was $5251.34. The total expenses were $1252.93. The net profit for the event was $3998.41. We received in kind donations worth $905.40.

 

5.  Club dues are due this month. Those members that still need to pay should contact Treasurer Erin O.

 

6. The Ladies Night In will take place on December 11^th at 7 p.m. at the home of 2^nd Vice-President Kalpana R’s In-laws who live in Purcellville. Members are asked to sign up to bring an appetizer, side dish, entrée or dessert. Members interested in attending should contact Kalpana.

 

7. Members are asked to bring boxes of cereal for Interfaith to the Ladies Night In.

 

8. The club membership event will take place on February 5^th at Belmont Greene Community Center.  The Membership committee has asked for ideas for the table centerpieces. The committee would like each centerpiece to represent a club project; such as Interfaith, Fairy Tale Closet, Meals on Wheels, etc. If members have ideas they can contact Kalpana.

 

9. Fairy Tale Closet Committee Co-Chair Dawn M. informed the members that planning has begun for the event. The Hampton Inn in Leesburg has agreed to work with us again. The committee hopes to hold the event in April. Volunteers are needed for the committee. The work for the event will be divided into various sub-committees such as set up, collections, advertising, etc. Members interested in helping to the plan this event can contact Dawn M.

 

10.  JWCL will be participating in the Leesburg Holiday Parade on December 1^st. Members are asked to arrive at Ida Lee Park by 6:15 p.m. Spouses and children are welcome to walk with us. Members interested in participating should contact Pam S.

 

11.  Interfaith had asked if we would be willing to change our night to work. There is a greater need for volunteers at the beginning of the month. A motion was made to change our night of working at Interfaith from the 4^th Tuesday night of the month to the 1^st Tuesday night of the month. The motion was seconded. The motion carried. 

 

12. There will be additional Interfaith training sessions on November 19, 26, and 28^th. These sessions will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Members interested in signing up should contact Charlotte L.

 

13.  A motion was made to endorse Lori R. for the GFWC VA 3^rd Vice- President Director of Junior Clubs for the 2008-2010 term. This motion was seconded. The motion carried.

 

14. There will be two MADD check points in December. One on December 1^st and the other on December 21^st. Members interested in participating or baking can contact Lori R.

 

15.  Dates to work at Holiday Coalition are being finalized. There will be more information in coming weeks.
