A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT – Tanya
Hello Ladies!   October is Juniors Month and what a way to kickoff the month.  Congratulations on another prosperous Waterford Fair!   I want to thank you all for your hard work and participation in this event.   Please help me in recognizing Cheryl, Lori and the Waterford committee for their diligence and dedication to the success of this event.

In celebration of Junior’s Month, we will be kicking off “club education”.  Look forward to learning about JWCL and GFWC. What does that stand for and what does that mean?  Find out at our October meeting.

The view through my viewfinder shows Junior’s building/decorating/ providing for a house in Loudoun County.  How will we do it and when?  Guest Speaker Jennifer McCann will be joining us to talk about the many opportunities to get involved and be a part of Habitat for Humanity’s “3 in 2003”!

It is also red ribbon time for MADD.  We have 6000 ribbons to place in fold and stuff.  We’ll start at the board meeting Sunday.  If anyone has extra time and would like to do some at home please let me know.  There are many more that can be done.

And as a grand finally…Octoberfest at Great Country Farms.  Pumpkins, hayrides, bonfire and s'mores what a wonderful way to end this beautiful month.  I hope to see you all there!   - Tanya

WATERFORD
Lori and I would like to thank everyone for baking bake goods and working at the booth at Waterford this past weekend. We really appreciate your participation in this important fundraising event. We would also like to thank Susan, Tricia, Michelle and Pam for all their hard work as Day Chairs. Thank you also to Pam, Michelle and Sharon Wright for shopping for our supplies. I would like to personally thank Tricia, Pam, Michelle, Sharon and Stephanie for helping me with set of the tent on Thursday. Thank you ladies! You made set up easy for me.

Our sales at Waterford are subject to the weather conditions. This past weekend was unusually warm for this time of year. We did not sell as much stew as we normally do. However, drink sales were brisk through out the weekend. I do not currently have the final figures for Waterford. I hope to have more information by our next monthly meeting on October 15th. Thank you again for helping us to have a good weekend at Waterford!   - Cheryl and Lori, Waterford Co-Chairs

PROM DRESS CAMPAIGN – Terri
I have started collecting information about organizing a prom dress "giveaway" event in the spring. For those of you who were not at the last meeting, here's a little background. I had read a few articles about individuals and/or groups who organized an event for teenage girls to receive a free prom dress and accessories at no charge. Girls who would not otherwise be able to attend the prom due to financial reasons would be invited to the event in hope that they would be able to find a dress for their prom. The organizing group would collect item donations from stores, friends, co-workers, family and invite selected girls to the event. So far, I have talked to one woman who is in the process of planning her first event in the Hampton Roads area and got some great ideas. She is sending me examples of some flyers and other materials that she is using that I hope to get in time for our meeting next week. I hope to set up a meeting for the prom dress committee next week, so if you are interested and didn't sign the sign up sheet, just send me an email or give me a call. I think this will be so much fun!

MEMBERSHIP MESSAGE - Michelle
Hello Ladies;   first I would like to welcome the two new prospectives that attended our September meeting, as well as welcome back a prospective that attended in June.  We were so pleased to have the opportunity to get to meet Liza, Cherly, and Joyia.  Each of these ladies jumped into club with both feet first and volunteered to work at Waterford.  We appreciated the extra help, as well as the chance to get to know them better.  Since the membership requirement is attendance at three events each of these ladies in addition to Stephanie, another prospective that put in her time at Waterford, are ready for initiation at the next meeting they attend.  That will bring us to five fantastic new members this fall!

Of course, I also need to thank our membership who continues to recommend and invite their friends and neighbors to JWCL.  As I have stated before each of you are the best recruitment tools that I have available.  And many of you must feel like I do, that JWCL offers the opportunity to give back to your community while at the same time the chance to meet and make new friends.  So please continue to invite your friends and neighbors to our meetings, or keep them in mind for an invitation to our January membership event.

I would also like to take a chance to congratulate one of our members on her recent engagement.  Jennel has found a wonderful man, who to our poor fortunes will be taking her away to Chicago at the end of the month.  Jennel, we are so happy for you, but we will all miss you and hope that you will keep in touch and drop by if you are ever in town.  Congratulations!!

Please remember to put our December meeting on your calendar, Tuesday, December 17.  This will be our winter Ladies Night Out, a chance to socialize and celebrate the season.  We have tentatively booked the Laurel Brigade Inn and more details will follow.

Last but not least, please remember your Secret Pal.  Everyone seems to be doing a great job with this!   See you at our meeting! – Michelle Taliaferro

OKTOBERFEST
Just a reminder that Oktoberfest is planned for Saturday, October 26 from 4:30 – 9:00.  I am so excited to tell you that we have had a large number of you sign-up to attend, and we are expecting about 40 adults and lots of kids to attend this event.  Many of you have already mailed me your check; however, I am still waiting on quite a few more.  Make the check payable to JWCL and drop in the mail to me as soon as possible.

I will be sending out an e-mail sometime next week with directions and reminder information about the event

TREASURER’S REPORT – Susan
The report will be presented at the October meeting due to Waterford sales and purchases not being finalized.

BYLAW UPDATE – Lori & Becca
At our October meeting, we will be voting on the by-law changes made at our September meeting.
