Loudoun Lady Newsletter GFWC – Virginia, Northern District March 2003, Newsletter Volume O, Issue 3
Next Meeting: Tuesday
March 18th, 7:30PM Shenandoah Building March Ladies Night Out will be Friday, 3/21 at Melting Pot Restaurant. Please
sign up at the March meeting. MESSAGE
FROM OUR PRESIDENT – Tanya I hope you are all
enjoying the last of the snow and all the while “cleaning-up and out” for
spring to bud forth. Preparations
are under way for our first Fairy Tale Closet Event and our newly named
“Spring Sale”. Now is the time
to get rid of those dresses you’ve been toting around from apartment to
apartment and house to house. Start
“piling up” the “stuff” you keep seeing taking up space better suited
for the “new stuff” currently without a home. This
is your opportunity to get it out of the house and treasured by someone else.
J Since our last
meeting in January, many of you have been working behind the scenes to make
these and other projects come true. Seven
of us volunteered with the Very Special Arts on Sunday selling tickets, photos,
refreshments and cleaning up. Some
will be helping out today with Daffodil delivery for the American Cancer Society
and there is a MADD Check point on St. Patrick’s Day that needs baked goods
and helpers. I want to thank you
all for your help and putting up with e-mail sign-ups.
It hasn’t been easy, but we made it work. We have a lot to do
at this months meeting and we need your participation. We will be pinning 7000 blue ribbons for Child Abuse
Prevention month in April. Sign-ups
will be going around for Fairy Tale Closet and the Spring Sale in April.
It’s time to put together a nominating committee as well and we will be
voting on our logo. Teri and Lori will be heading the meeting because I have a
prior commitment. And finally, we are
always looking for new projects and ideas to help out with in our community.
Please do not hesitate to bring them forth at our meeting or e-mail me or
anyone else on the board. This is your
JWCL. Make it what you want it to
be by sharing your ideas and volunteering what and when you can. Tanya Membership
Message - Michelle Hello Ladies, Not much membership news this month. I was very disappointed that we had to cancel our February meeting because I was looking forward to another visit with our many guests from the Membership Dessert. I fully expect a large number of new prospective members from the dessert to attend the March meeting. Many of these ladies have been in touch with me via e-mail or phone over the last several weeks. They are very enthusiastic about JWCL. Some have even volunteered to help with Very Special Arts and Daffodil Days. I will miss seeing them in March due to the much anticipated arrival of our new little boy, but I know that each of our current members will make them feel welcome. Our spring looks packed with volunteer opportunities for everyone, as well as a rescheduled Ladies Night Out social from February. Enjoy the change in weather, and I look forward to seeing everyone in a month or two. Still Waiting! – Michelle Fairy
Tale Closet–
Terri
The Fairy Tale Closet committee has been very busy planning and collecting items for the upcoming boutique weekend on March 29 & 30. We have collected over 60 dresses so far and lots of makeup. Each girl who attends will be given a cosmetic goody bag to take home. We have also been given a dinner gift certificate for 2 to Bacchus Cafe and are waiting confirmation on another certificate from another local restaurant. Hairport Salon in Sterling has offered a few manicures and hairstyles for the day of the proms. The community members are very excited about this event and have been very generous. We have also received many dresses from church members in Vienna, thanks to Rosalyn having the information listed in the church bulletin. One employee at the Leesburg Corner outlet mall collected $90 worth of funds to donate to the event for purchasing any needed items. We are all very excited about this and hope it will be a success. Hope you all saw the stories last week in Leesburg Today and the Loudoun Times Mirror. I will be sending around a sign up sheet at the next meeting with the shifts listed. We will need help with set-up on March 28, and the event on March 29 and 30. There will be 2 shifts each day. If you have any dresses to donate, please bring them with you to our meeting. SPriNg

Cheryl Our spring fundraiser, the Spring Sale will take place on Saturday, April 26th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Douglass Community Center in Leesburg. We need your help! I will be sending around a sign up sheet at the March meeting for volunteers to work at the sale. We will need help on Friday night, April 25th with setting up for the sale. We also need volunteers to work as cashiers during the sale and to tear down after the sale. The following are the hours of the different shifts: Friday, April 25th Set Up 6 p.m. to ? Saturday, April 26th First Shift 8 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. Second shift 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tear Down 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. I know Saturdays can be very busy, so if you can only work an hour or two that’s fine. We will take all the help we can get! If you are unable to attend the meeting on March 18th, but would like to participate, please email me. Our April meeting will only be a week before the sale, so I would like to sign up as many people as I can before then. We are also in need of many items for the rummage sale. I will be posting an instruction sheet on our website www.JWCL.org. This will include a list of items that we will not be able to accept. In addition to the rummage sale, we are renting tables to home based businesses and crafters. We have had over 12 vendors to sign up so far! We have room for up to 30 vendors this year. If you or someone you know has a home based business or sells crafts and would be interested in participating in the sale, please contact Amy. Finally, please help to spread the word about our sale to your neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. We are really hoping for a good turn out this year! Please contact me if you would like to sign up to work or have any questions. Cheryl, Ways and Means Chairman Club
LOGO - Linda
/ Misty We are still working to finalize
the logo design and design standards. There was supposed to be a vote
about the final design at the February meeting, but Mother Nature had other
ideas! Attached are the final three designs to vote on at the upcoming
meeting. Once the logo has been determined, the committee will be starting
to work on developing shirts, brochures and other items for the club. As
