GFWC – Virginia, Northern District February
2003, Newsletter Volume O, Issue 2 Next Meeting: Tuesday, February 18th, 7:30PM Shenandoah Building February Social: Friday,
February 28th 8:45PM, Dessert at the Melting Pot in Reston MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT – Tanya Hello Ladies! What a wonderful way to “kick off” 2003! Reports are done, the budget is done, we skated through our first monthly outing and welcomed many new prospective members to JWCL. I want to thank Michelle, the membership committee and all of you who were able to participate in putting together a beautiful evening to introduce JWCL to our prospective members. It was an evening enjoyed by all. Thank you! Speaking of “kicking off”… “Kick off the year and volunteer” is starting off strong! Several members have come forth with wonderful ideas and several opportunities to participate in throughout the next few months. Here are just a few…
Look for sign-up sheets at our February meeting and get
involved. Remember, JWCL
wants to branch out to the community by helping others not stress you out.
Please do only what you can joyfully handle.J I want to personally invite all of our prospective members to join us for our monthly meeting February 18th at 7:30pm at the Area Agency on Aging. I look forward to seeing you all again and meeting those of you who were not able to attend our January event. Tanya Membership Message - Michelle Hello Everyone. I just wanted to thank each of you for your support of our January Membership Dessert. I appreciate each of you that invited guests, prepared food, and/or attended the event and mingled with our 38 guests. I’d like to take just a minute to thank a few people personally. First, Linda S. did a beautiful job designing our invitations and making sure that all the ladies received reminder cards prior to our event. Additionally, Linda and Misty S. took over the Public Relations side of the event and made sure that we got the word out to local ladies through advertisements and public service announcements. Monica D. and Amy F. were responsible for the beautiful decorations and guest door prizes as well as coordinating set up for the evening. Laura P-K. and Shaila M. organized the refreshment side of the evening, and handled everything from refreshment sign-ups and paper good purchasing to set-up and clean-up of our refreshment tables. Lori C. served as an adviser to the committee and helped each of us with our assigned tasks. Last but not least, Cheryl K. served as our contact person with Exeter. I am so thankful for each of these ladies assistance in planning for the Membership Dessert. I’d also like to thank everyone that personally invited guests to the event – either through giving Linda their addresses for invitations to be mailed or contacting them with a personal invitation. This word of mouth recruiting seemed to be our most effective tool for letting local women know about JWCL. A few members stood out in this category: our stellar recruiter Elinor M. was responsible for inviting five out of the 38 women there that evening both Amy H. and Angela F. had three guests they invited attend the dessert! Amy F., Stephanie M., Susan B., Pam S., Laura, Shaila M., Bridget P., and Heather M. also had guests that they invited attend the dessert. Thank you again for a successful evening. I hope each of you enjoyed meeting and mingling with our guests. Several of these ladies have expressed interest in membership and, I expect to see a great number of them at our next meeting. I know that each of you is looking forward to the opportunity to get to know these women as much as I am. See you on February 18th. – Michelle February Birthdays

Fairy Tale Closet - Teri H. We
are very excited to announce that the new Hampton Inn in Leesburg has offered to
let us host our event at their hotel, free of charge! We will be meeting
with the sales director this week to check out the space. Our official dress
collection begins on Saturday, February 15. So far, we will have boxes set up at
Peebles, Town & Country Wellness Center, Gold's Gym (Ashburn), and Leesburg
Corner Premium Outlets (mgt office). More locations are needed, so as you
are out this week doing errands, please ask stores, gyms, salons, etc if we can
set up a box or if they can donate a service. I will be emailing everyone a copy
of the flyer this week that can be handed out to businesses to give them more
information about the event. Also, please use this flyer to solicit for
donations for anything prom related, dinner gift certificates, hair salon
certificates, new make-up, limo service, etc. If you have collected any
dresses, please bring them to our meeting on Feb 18
Spring Sale - Cheryl K. At the January meeting, the club approved the Ways and Means committee’s proposal to change the name of the Mother’s Sale to Spring Sale. The club also approved changing the sale from a consignment sale to a donated item sale. The Spring Sale will take place on April 26th at the Douglass Community Center in Leesburg. I hope to speak to the manger at Douglass this week about adding an hour or two to the sale. We would like to have the sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We hope by extending the time of the sale that we may attract more customers that will be going to and from the Leesburg Flower and Garden Show. I hope to have a definite time by next week. The set up for the sale will be on Friday night, April 25th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. We have invited the home based businesses that participated last year to participate in this year’s sale. Amy H. has volunteered to take over the home based business portion of the sale from Rosalyn, who has to be out of town that weekend. If you (or anyone else you know) would like to be considered for a booth, please contact Amy for additional details. In order for the sale to be successful, we will need everyone’s help. If you have items that you were thinking of giving away to the Salvation Army, please save them for the sale. Please let your neighbors, friends and family know about the sale. We can use all the items we can get! We will be working on an instruction sheet for the sale, which will include a list of items that we will not be able to accept. I hope to have this instruction sheet available next month. I also hope to be able to pass around a sign up sheet for workers at the next meeting. If you don’t know your schedule right now, don’t worry. I will be passing around the sign up sheet again next month. I will share more details about the sale during upcoming meetings. Cheryl K., Ways and Means Committee Chairman
Club Logo - Misty S. / Linda S. We are currently narrowing down our options to choose our final JWCL logo design. Enclosed are the three final options that will be voted upon at the next meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting and would like to vote, please email either Misty S. or Linda S. with your choice. After the final logo is decided upon, we will then determine color placement and appropriate forms of the logo for different items (correspondence, shirts, etc.).
