JUNIOR
WOMAN’S CLUB OF LOUDOUN CELEBRATES 50 YEARS Reception
to Honor Past Members and Welcome Prospective Members April 9, 2001 – Founded by a group of 15 women in 1951, the Junior Woman’s Club of Loudoun (JWCL) is pleased to announce that it will celebrate its 50th Anniversary at a reception on Sunday, April 29, 2001 from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Exeter Clubhouse at 350 Plaza St. N.E. in Leesburg. The Club’s current President, Ms. Lori Carter reflects on the Club’s mission. “The Junior Woman’s Club of Loudoun has touched countless organizations and individuals in the 50 years that it has been in existence. It was important for us to celebrate this occasion by honoring the women who have served in the Club during its 50 years and at the same time, use the occasion as an opportunity to invite new members into the Club.” The purpose of the JWCL is to unite young women to promote the welfare of the community and enrich the members culturally and intellectually. The JWCL is a part of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs, one of the world's largest women's volunteer organizations. The Club has many accomplishments in its proud past.
The JWCL established the Blue Ridge Speech & Hearing Clinic in the
1960s to meet the needs of children in the Loudoun County school system. It also
founded Loudoun County's first chapter of Virginians Opposing Drunk Driving, a
predecessor of the Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) organization.
